West Market Church in it's current form has existed since 1898 when the traditional sanctuary was completed. Although accessibility wasn't an issue on the forefronts of the architect's mind at that time, we take it seriously now. Our church is equipped with 2 elevators, accessible on the East and West sides of the building, daily handicapped parking and additional parking for Sundays and special events as well as an adult changing table on the third floor in the men's bathroom for larger children and adults with special needs.
Parking for handicap
To the left of the building as you face the sanctuary (West Market St.), our church has access to special parking (handicapped only) on weekends in the fenced federal courthouse lot. Shown above is a ramped entrance on the west side nearest that lot. We also have limited spaces on the John Wesley Way side and will reserve more on that side for special occasions.
We are equipped with two elevators, one on the east side and one on the west side of the building. Both are wheelchair accessible but the elevator closest to the parking mentioned to the left gives the least amount of incline to navigate.
adult changing table
Our church hosts a respite care program called Buddy Break which allows families of special needs individuals a few hours to get away once a month. Due to the popularity of this program, an adult capacity changing table has been installed on the 3rd floor to accommodate adults or larger children.
