classes for children from infant to 5th grade during the faith and fellowship hour

On a weekly basis, we bring captivating Bible accounts to life. We reinforce the words of the Bible by playing fun games and experimenting with science. We complete hands-on mission projects to help others throughout the world. We encourage strong relationships with adult leaders and peers to develop confidence and a sense of belonging at church. But most importantly we encourage an active relationship with Jesus that will sustain the children through the ups and downs of life.
Paid childcare workers trained in first aid and/or CPR care for our youngest ones (Birth-4) throughout the morning on Sundays. West Market Church is blessed to have childcare workers who provide a very loving and caring environment. Age-appropriate Christian education begins in the toddler room, but God’s love is our focus even in the infant room.
If you are visiting for the first time please visit our Nursery FAQ Page for more information.
During the 9 and 11 am worship services, Ginger Shields, Director of Family Ministry, and Erin Althaus, Director of Children's Ministry, lead 4-year-olds through third graders in a Bible lesson designed especially for them. Using videos, science experiments, games and worship time, the Bible is brought to life. Children who attend worship service are invited to join Erin and Billy immediately following the Children’s Moment.
Pre-K and ELEMENTARY-AGED Small groups
Once your children visit West Market on Sunday morning, they’ll be asking to come back! In our pre-K and elementary small groups we focus on engaging and interacting while learning about the love of Jesus. Dedicated volunteers make the Bible stories come to life and help the children apply the lessons to their everyday life. Small groups meet during the Faith & Fellowship Hour from 10:00 - 10:50 am. All elementary groups meet on the 3rd floor; pre-K groups meet on the 2nd floor.
If your child is visiting any of our children’s small groups for the first time we ask that you complete a one-time registration card with important information about your child and his or her needs. On subsequent visits, you will securely check in with our computer check-in system.
On Wednesday afternoons during the school year our children take time out to focus on others. Pre-school and kindergarten kids learn about the needs of others and respond in SHINE (Room 226B). First through third grade students engage in missions to make a difference in SPARK 5000 (Room 415). Fourth and fifth grade students learn leadership skills as they serve others in Impact League (Room 302D). Each of the programs provide an opportunity for kids to learn about other cultures and the needs of people throughout the world. Since we are the “hands and feet of Jesus,” we believe that it is important to get children involved in helping others early in their lives.
CHILDREN’S MUSIC PROGRAMS
Immediately following these mission groups, 4-year-olds through 5th graders meet to praise God through music. Some years the kids work on a musical; other years they perform occasionally during Sunday services and on special occasions. For more information, contact Alice Ann Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT SUPPER
During the school year, take a break from cooking, and join us for a fantastic meal on Wednesday nights. You can also stay around after dinner -- just to enjoy fellowship and let the kids run around. It's always a fun adventure!
SPECIAL EVENTS . . .
West Market hosts many special events which allow the entire church to come together as a family — including the Easter Egg Hunt, the Fall Festival and Hot Cocoa with Santa. We also have kid-specific events like Lock-Ins and Bible Studies. During the summer, we have an amazing Vacation Bible School, a one-week day camp at Camp Guilrock, and a one-week Music Camp.
