REFUGEE MINISTRY
West Market Street UMC has a long history of welcoming in our newest neighbors who come to Greensboro as refugees. We partner with various local nonprofits who serve the refugee community to help meet the needs of the organizations and their clients in various capacities. Our partners include New Arrivals Institute, the NC Fusion Foundation, Faith Action, Church World Services, and African Services.
We assist with projects that include:
Providing warmth bags of hats, socks, gloves, etc. for the winter.
Funding for summer educational programs for children.
Upkeep projects for tutoring rooms, soccer fields, and playgrounds.
Bus passes, food, household supplies, etc.
Assistance in crisis situations involving rent, utilities, food, and other emergency needs.
*Please note this is a general fund to support all refugees in Greensboro and is not specific to the family from Afghanistan we are currently sponsoring. Thanks to the many generous contributions from our congregation, partner churches, and the WNCUMC Conference, funding for our sponsored family is well covered at this time!
