Hymn Study: Global Traditions of Sacred Song

  • West Market Church 302 West Market Street Greensboro, NC, 27401 United States (map)

The January hymn study session focuses on "Decolonizing Congregational Song” as presented through the Hymn Society by Becca Whitla, the professor of pastoral studies at St. Andrew’s College in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. From her White Euro-Canadian settler perspective, she examines ways to decolonize liturgical practices. Join our Traditional Music Director Dreama Lovitt in this ongoing exploration of the global variety of hymns, spirituals, and songs of praise. A brief discussion will follow the viewing of Dr. Whitla's lecture as we contemplate congregational song in its depth and variety of styles and cultural traditions. For more info, contact Dreama Lovitt.
