Join in Developing Church-Wide Goals to Advance West Market Street UMC’s Vision & Values!

What’s West Market Street UMC’s Vision?

Vision Statement: Our goal is to be a Christ-formed church creating beloved community from the heart of downtown Greensboro. We strive to be a place where all persons will find belonging, hope, joy, and transformation of life by embodying God’s love for the world through ministries of justice, mercy, and reconciliation.

This vision is embodied in our values as expressed in church communities:

  1. We are an inclusive community―honoring and valuing the dignity of all people, embodying a culture of love, transformation, and belonging.

  2. We are a servant community―serving with our neighbors through ministries of justice, mercy, and reconciliation.

  3. We are a learning community―encouraging growth in faith and understanding through age-specific and intergenerational ministry opportunities.

  4. We are an advocating community―sharing the love of God and acting with courage to give witness to the power of God through word and deed.

  5. We are a welcoming community―extending God’s own hospitality by creating and using God’s sacred space for all.

We need your help!

Join us for a free dinner in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

  • We will learn about discipleship, our vision and values, and about holy conferencing and setting church goals using the SMART method (goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound).

  • We will divide up into focus groups among the five communities above―your assigned group will be selected among your top three preferences made on September 3.

  • Can’t make the September 3 dinner? No problem! Go to the West Market website, under Discipleship, to make your community preferences selection.

  • Your group will engage in holy conferencing over the course of the month at dates, times, and places of the group’s choosing, and develop SMART goals for the church.

  • The Church Council will select goals from the work of the focus groups that will move us forward in 2025. Existing or new ministry area committees will initiate work toward implementing them.
